10 days Rwanda – Uganda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari

This tour starts from Rwanda where you will enjoy the beautiful landscape of endless rolling highlands, cool weather and friendly people. You will do the amazing Gorilla and Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park and thereafter cross into Uganda for a safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park that will expose you to plenty of big game and amazing scenery, and then the chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest National Park is an unfortable experience with our closest relatives!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be met and welcomed by a party from our company who will then transfer you to the hotel to relax off the jetlag and spend the night.

Day 2: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

After you have had breakfast you shall set out for a tour of Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest, safest and most progressive cities. Some of the places you shall visit include the Kandt Museum, Genocide Memorial, and crafts markets. You will return to the hotel for refreshment and lunch, thereafter check out and drive to the North of Rwanda, arriving in Musanze late afternoon. Check into your lodge near Volcanoes National Park and spend the evening taking in the breathtaking views of the Virungas.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

mountain gorillas ugandaHave early breakfast, pick your lunch boxes and transfer to the park offices in Kinigi by 7.00am. Meet the rangers for allocation of Gorilla groups and pre-trekking briefing. By 8.00am you are transferring to the starting point for the trek into the park to track the gorillas. The lush volcano chain sets a breathtaking backdrop for the Gorilla adventures. You will spend an amazing one hour with the Mountain Gorilas after which you return to meet the driver and transfer back to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 4: Golden Monkeys – Lake Bunyonyi

Golden Monkey in RwandaHave quick breakfast and transfer to the park offices in Kinigi to meet the rangers for briefing after which you will transfer to Sabinyo to track the beautiful Golden Monkeys. The monkeys live in the bamboo vegetation in the lower zones of the mountain which makes easier to track and faster to find compared to the Gorillas. Spend one hour with them after which you return to the lodge for relaxation. Have early lunch, check out and depart for southwestern Uganda, crossing via Cyanika border. Arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the late afternoon, check into the lodge at the edge of the lake and spend the evening enjoying the beautiful scenery and lovely weather.

Day 5: Exploring Lake Bunyonyi and Batwa community tour

While at Lake Bunyonyi we will do a canoe ride on the lake and visit some of the islands and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and terraces. At the other end of the lake we will visit a community of the famous Batwa people who are former inhabitants of the forests including Bwindi. They will demonstrate to us how they lived their lives in the forest, from the hunting methods, to making fire with wood and collecting water, etc… They will also treat us to some traditional folklore!

Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast check out and drive to queen elizabeth national park. Drive through the Ishasha sector of the park and look out for the famous tree-climbing lions as well as other big animals. Later you will transfer to your accommodation in the north of the park.

Day 7: Game Drive, Boat Safari

lion i queen elizabeth national parkGet up to an early morning hot cup of tea/coffee accompanied with snack then set off to do a game drive by 6.30am. Explore the game tracks in the northern part of the park where you are exposed to plenty of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Expect to see plenty of big game such as Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, Antelopes, Hyenas, and Giant Forest Hogs among others. After 3 hours in the bush return to the lodge for breakfast and relax. After lunch you will transfer to Mweya for a 2-hour boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. This offers the closest sightings of an array of wildlife in the water and along the shores. Hippos fluff and puff a few meters away while Buffaloes, Monitor Lizards, Crocodiles, Elephants and lots of birds line up along the shores. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, Bigodi wetland walk

After breakfast we will transfer to Kibale forest national park, driving in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains and along the breathtaking Albertine rift valley escarpment. We will stop in Fort Portal town for lunch.  After check in at the lodge we will head out for the walk in the Bigodi wetlands near the Kibale forest to observe a range of monkey species and other wildlife such as the birds, butterflies, and plants among others.

Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest and drive to Kampala

chimpsAfter early breakfast, transfer to the briefing point to meet the park ranger guides and start the chimpanzee trek in Kibale forest. Kibale forest has the biggest population of chimps in Uganda and offers the best opportunity of seeing and getting up close with our closest relatives. Expect sighting of other primates as there is up to 13 species. After the chimp trek we shall have lunch at the lodge and thereafter check out and drive to Kampala.

Day 10: Departure
