3 days Mount Karisimbi hiking tour

Book this 3 day mountain hiking tour in Rwanda and enjoy a beautiful hiking adventure in the Virunga Mountains – a chain of 8 volcanoes sprawling along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. On this tour you will hike Mount Karisimbi (4507m / 14787ft) which is the highest volcano in the Virungas and it is also the highest mountain in Rwanda and the 5th highest in Africa. The Virungas are a heaven for lovers of the outdoors. You will hike through lush jungle filled with rare plants and several wildlife such gorillas, golden monkeys and duiker among others.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – travel to Musanze, afternoon Mukungwa canoe trip

Today you shall travel to Musanze in the morning, departing at about 8am. You will check into your lodge for relaxation.

In the afternoon you shall go for the canoe trip on River Mukungwa which is about 3 hours. The canoe ride will treat you to lovely views of the lush countryside.

Day 2 – hike mount Karisimbi

After early breakfast, you shall transfer to the park at 7am, meet the park guides, the chef and the porters and start your trek up Mt. Karisimbi. You will overnight at altitude 3700m camping in park shelters.

Day 3 – climb down from Karisimbi and transfer to Kigali or Lake Kivu

You will wake up for early breakfast and start the climb to the peak of Mt. Karisimbi. Enjoy the incredible views at the summit. After an hour or less depending on the weather you shall return to the camp for lunch and then continue down the mountain, meet your tour driver at the base and travel back to Kigali.

Alternatively, you can transfer to Lake Kivu for a night to relax before departing for Kigali.
