5 Days Rwanda Gorilla tour and Lake Kivu experience

The 5 Day Rwanda Experience combines the rigorous treks in Volcanoes National Park and a relaxation adventure at Lake Kivu.

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport you shall be met by the tour driver from Nature Trails East Africa. Transfer to a hotel in Kigali for lunch and brief relaxation stay after which you shall drive to Volocanoes National Park situated in the north of Rwanda. Check into your lodge located just outside of the park. Spend the evening from the comforts of the lodge while you enjoy breathtaking views of the Virunga mountain range. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning Hiking the Dian Fossey Tomb Trail and Afternoon Community Tour

Have early breakfast and transfer to the park offices in Kinigi by 7am. Meet the rangers for briefing after which you’ll transfer to the base of Mt. Bisoke and set out to trek the trail to the Dian Fossey Tomb and Karisoke Research Center. The 1.45 hour trek on steep and often slippery ground rewards with breathtaking views of the lush Virunga vocanoes and sighting of wildlife such as orchids, birds and occasionally Gorillas. Trek back to find the driver and transfer to the lodge for lunch.


Later in the afternoon set out for a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where you shall have a chance to observe and experience the traditional way of life of the Rwandan people. Activities that you can join in with the community include Grinding millet and Sorghum on a local grinding stone which is then mingled to make food, cycle on a wooden bicycle, shoot arrows with the Batwa people who not long ago were inhabitants of the forests in the park and leaved a life of hunting and gathering, listen to village elders explain their traditions and practices and so much more. You shall also be treated to a traditional dance performance by the Intore dancers

Return to the lodge for diner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trek and Transfer to Lake Kivu, Gisenyi

Mountain Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Have early breakfast, pick a lunchbox from the lodge, take at least 2 liters of water and transfer to the park offices in Kinigi by 7am. Meet the rangers for allocation of Gorilla groups and pre-trek briefing after which you shall drive to the start of the Gorilla trek at the base of one of the 5 Virunga volcanoes in the park. After thrilling but tiring expedition return to the lodge, check out and transfer to Lake Kivu for overnight stay at a hotel located near the white sandy shores of Lake Kivu. This is the ideal place to relax and unwind for the Gorilla experience. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Kivu

After breakfast set out for some adventures on Lake Kivu to enjoy beautiful sights and get up-close with plenty of nature. Visit the popular Napoleon’s Hut and Amahoro “peace” Islands. Return to the hotel for lunch and relax away the rest of the day at the beach. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 5 : Transfer to Kigali, City Tour and Departure

After breakfast, check and leave for Kigali City. Do a brief tour of the Kigali visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and the Museum of Natural History. If time allows you may also visit the crafts market to purchase some souvenirs. In the evening you shall be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
