5 Days Wildlife Safari and Gorilla Trekking – Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi National Park tour

This trip combines the classic African safari experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the amazing Mountain Gorilla tour in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The two parks are located in the highly scenic south-western Uganda, along the Albertine Rift valley. The nearness between the parks offers a relaxed tour with reduced travel/drive time/distance. Lake Bunyonyi is a great added-on after the Gorilla trek to enable you relax in the cool weather before returning to Kampala

Trip Specifications

  • Group size: minimum 1 (one) traveler
  • Age limit: must be at least 15 years to do Gorilla tracking, no exceptions
  • Only 8 travelers can track a single Gorilla group in one day which limits the number of permits which can be issued per day. Due to the high demand, we advise you book your trip well in advance, say 2 months earlier.
  • To reserve your Gorilla permit (s) we need your full names as they appear in your passport, your nationality and passport number

Day 1 – Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Set off from Kampala at 7.00am and travel to western Uganda. Lunch time will get you in Mbarara town where you shall stop for a meal and brief relaxation, thereafter proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at the lodge enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Day 2 – Morning Game Drive – Boat Safari

Wake up at first light – about 6.00am, grab a snack with a cup of hot tea/coffee to warm your tummy and then set off for a game drive to spot many animals and birds in the most beautiful scenery in Uganda. At a glance there are 66 species of animals and as many as 568 bird species. game-drive-queen-elizabeth-national-parlThe Kasenyi plains in the northeast of the park have the largest population of big game and the so you will explore the game trails there. Some of the animals you will see include Buffaloes, Lions, Hyenas, Elephants, and Antelopes among others. After close to 3 hours, return to the lodge for your breakfast, and relax. After lunch, you go to do another exciting adventure, a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. A natural water stream of 32 km long, the Kazinga Channel connects Lakes George and Edward. The channel has many animals the common ones being the Hippos and Crocodile. Other big game such as Elephants and Buffaloes come to drink and cool off. Birdlife is at its best here with channel attracting hundred of water species.  Enjoy the 2 hour ride observe a lot of wildlife at such close distance. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Ishasha – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Be up for breakfast, check out, and transfer to the southern section of the park called Ishasha. This area is famous for the Tree-climbing Lions plus other rare animals such as Topis. tree-lions-uganda-safariDrive through to search for the lions, and get to observe other wildlife as well. After close to 2 hours continue to Kihihi for lunch at Savannah International Hotel. Thereafter proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to track the Mountain Gorillas.

Day 4 – Gorillas Trekking – Lake Bunyonyi

Have early breakfast, check out and transfer to the briefing point at 7.00am. Take with you packed lunch or snacks, 1 liter of water, and a rain jacket. At the briefing point you are allotted to a Gorilla group you shall be tracking, meet the rangers for the briefing and thereafter transfer to the start of the trek into the forest. mountain gorillas bwindi ugandaSpend on hour with the gorillas, return to find your driver and proceed to Lake Bunyonyi and relax away the day enjoy the beautiful lake surrounded by terraced highlands.

Day 5 – Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala

Wake up to do a canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi, explore the island on the lake and enjoy the beautiful landscape that is engulfed by mist. Return to have breakfast, check out and leave for Kampala. You shall stopover in Mbarara for lunch, and again at the Uganda Equator monument in Masaka for some picture moments. You shall arrive in Kampala in the evening, drop-off at your hotel.
