2 Days Safari Trip in Akagera National Park, Two days Wildlife Tour in Rwanda

giraffe in Akagera national parkThough popular for Mountain Gorillas, primates, and a mountainous landscape, Rwanda is also gifted with beautiful savanna grasslands in Akagera National Park which harbor plenty of big game and wildlife. A safari in Akagera  rewards with sightings of animals such as Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several species of Antelopes, leopards, hyenas, hippos, and crocodiles among others. Lions are to be re-introduced by the end of 2015. Birdlife is at its best in Akagera National Park, with more than 525 birds species registered across 1085 square kilometers of varied habitats.

This two days safari trip to Akagera includes game drives through the game trails to observe animals and enjoy the beautiful scenery, and afternoon boat safari on Lake Ihema to spot some aquatic wildlife and other game along the banks.

Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park

After an early morning breakfast, you shall leave Kigali at 7.00am for Akagera National Park, situated to the east of the Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. The journey is about two and half hours long, check into the park via the headquarters and thereafter start off the safaris with a game drive to spot some animals. At lunch transfer to your accommodation, have lunch and relax a little. Later set out for a boat safari on Lake Ihema to spot some aquatic wildlife and lots of animals along the banks. However in the event that the weather does not favor a boat trip, you’ll set out for another game drive and traverse more game tracks. Return to the lodge for the rest of the day, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive, Return to Kigali

Have an early snack with hot tea/coffee and set off at 6.00am for another Game Drive, aiming to catch the elusive nocturnal and cats which are still active by this time. Concentration today is further to the north of the park in the open savanna plains overlooking Tanzania. This area has the biggest concentration of wildlife in Akagera so expect to see so many animals and beautiful scenery! After four hours, return to the lodge for breakfast and relax till lunch. Check out by 2.30pm and leave for Kigali.
