4 days Queen Elizabeth Park safari and Rwenzori waterfall hike

This 4 day trip takes you for an amazing safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park which is home to a huge diversity of wildlife and has one of the best scenery. Some of the animals to be seen on this safari include lions, antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, and hippos among others.

This trip also gives you a chance to taste the magnificent Rwenzori Mountains by doing a short trek to a set of waterfalls in the base of the Rwenzori mountains.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 – travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today you shall be picked up from you hotel at 7am and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. You will check into your lodge which is situated in the rift valley, overlooking the plains and lakes in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Rwenzori Mountains in the backdrop.

Day 2 – game drive and boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early rise and set out for a safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park to watch animals and enjoy the beautiful savannah scenery. You will spend 3+ hours driving through the Kasenyi plains in a safari car with a popup roof to allow you a 360 degree view. Some of the animals to be seen include: elephants, antelopes, buffaloes, and warthogs. There is an abundance of cats such as lions, hyenas, leopards, jackals, etc.. but sighting them is not guaranteed as other big game, but an early start will increase your chances.

After the game drive you shall return to the lodge for some relaxation and have early lunch.

You shall go for the boat safari on the Kazinga Channel which starts at 2pm. The boat safari offers a wonderful chance to see more wildlife and enjoy the amazing scenery. Animals such as hippos and crocodiles can be seen just a couple of meters from the boat as they line up along banks of the channel. Other animals such as buffaloes, antelopes come to drink from the channel and cool off. For the keen birder, the channel offers incredible birding opportunities as lots of water birds flock along the banks of the channel. After boat safari which is 2 hours long you shall drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Rwenzori waterfalls hike

After breakfast, you shall head off to the Rwenzori Mountains for a taste of the “mountains of the moon”. You shall embark on a short hike (3.2km round trip and 1.5hours duration) to the beautiful twin waterfalls in the base of the Rwenzori Mountains. The two waterfalls are formed by two distinct waterfalls from the Rwenzori mountains and join their waterfalls at the bottom of the falls and thereafter continue to flow as one river. You will also savor the breathtaking mountain landscape, get an insight to lifestyle of the local people in the mountains, see some rare mountain wildlife such as trees and birds, etc… You will picnic at the waterfalls and later in the day drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Departure

After breakfast, check out and travel back to Kampala. You shall stop over at the Uganda Equator for picture moments
