5 days Rwanda chimpanzees and Uganda gorillas tour

If you are visiting Rwanda and are interested in seeing the chimps and the gorillas, this 5 days Rwanda chimpanzees and Uganda gorillas tour is one of the tours you can do. You will go for the chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park which is the only destination for chimp tours in Rwanda having a population of 500 chimps and many other primates such as the monkeys which can be seen during the canopy walk adventure. You will then transfer to Uganda for the more affordable gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The gorilla trekking in Uganda costs $700 while it costs $1500 in Rwanda.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Nyungwe National Park and canopy walk tour

Today you shall be picked up by your tour driver at 8am and travel to Nyungwe National Park located in the southwest of Rwanda. This journey is about 5 hours drive, including extra hour for early lunch along the way.

On getting to Nyungwe National Park you will meet the park guides for briefing and set off for the canopy walk adventure in Nyungwe forest. The canopy walkway hangs about 50 meters from the ground giving you breathtaking views across the forest and an insight into the canopy of the forest where you may see monkeys and birds at eye-level.

Thereafter you shall continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park and afternoon tea experience

Today you shall have early breakfast and transfer to the park by 5am to meet the park guides for briefing before going for the chimpanzee trekking adventure in Nyungwe. You will follow the chimps for one hour after finding them.

After the incredible adventure with the chimps you shall return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Later in the afternoon you shall go for tea experience near Nyungwe by visiting a tea garden to see how tea is grown and harvested and then continue to the factory to see how it is processed and finish off with a cup of tea.

Day 3 – travel to Bwindi National Park in Uganda

After breakfast you shall depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. You will drive along the scenic Lake Kivu, stopping over at various view points to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Day 4 – gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast you shall transfer to Bwindi National Park for the gorilla trekking adventure. Bwindi is home to up to 459 gorillas which is the highest population of mountain gorillas any park. You shall meet the park guides for allocation of the gorilla families. Bwindi has up to 19 habituated gorilla families. You shall then be briefed about the tracking and thereafter start your trek into Bwindi forest to find the gorillas. Depending on the movement of the gorillas you could take from a few minutes to a couple of hours before finding the gorillas which you shall observe for 1 hour.

Day 5 – travel back to Kigali

After breakfast you shall check out and travel back to Kigali.
