5 days Murchison Falls safari and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest

This 5 days tour offers the best combination of the best wildlife safari and chimpanzee trekking adventure in Uganda. You will visit the Murchison Falls National Park which is Uganda’s biggest national park and the prime wildlife safari destination offering the best sightings of animals such as lions, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, etc… And after you shall go for the chimpanzee tracking adventure in Kibale National Park which is home to Uganda’s biggest population of chimps and offers the best chances to see chimps in Uganda.

5 day / 4 night Murchison Falls safari and Kibale chimps trekking itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Murchison Falls National Park and Rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

The tour driver shall pick you up from the hotel at 7am and leave for Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way you shall stop over at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for the rhino tracking adventure. The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to only the Rhinos in the wild in Uganda. You go a  guided trek on the sanctuary to find rhinos and also see several other wildlife such as antelopes, birds, several species of acacia trees.

Day 2 – game drive, boat cruise and hike to top of the Murchison Falls

Today you shall wake up by 6am, have quick breakfast and set out for a game drive in the park. This will be a 4 hour adventure and you shall see several animals and enjoy the beautiful savannah.

After lunch you shall go for the boat cruise safari on the River Nile in Murchison Falls National Park. This is a two hour cruise that will expose you to beautiful scenery and several animals along the river bank such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants, antelopes, etc… The cruise shall reach the bottom of the spectacular Murchison Falls where you shall disembark and go on a guided hike to the top of the Murchison Falls. You will witness as the whole Nile squeezes through a small gap about 7 meters wide and exploding into the world’s strongest waterfall. You will find the driver that the top of the falls and transfer to the lodge for the dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – travel to Kibale National Park

After breakfast you shall check out and head to Kibale Forest National Park.

Day 4 – chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest and Bigodi wetland walk

You shall have breakfast by 7am and transfer to the ranger station to meet the park guides and set out to track the chimps in Kibale National Park. Kibale is a primate haven, and in addition the chimps the park hosts 12 other species of primates and during your trek you may encounter several monkeys. A maximum of 1 hour is spent with the chimps.

After lunch you shall go out for a walk in the Bigodi wetlands near Kibale National Park. The wetlands are home to several species of primates and along the trail shall spot several monkey species. You will also have a chance to visit the local communities around the wetlands and learn about the traditions and cultures of the people.

Optional: chimpanzee habituation

Instead of the chimpanzee trekking adventure which allows just one hour with the chimps you can go for the chimpanzee habituation experience which allows a full day with the chimps, seeing them as they walk early in the morning and following them up the whole day till the time they make new nests to spend the night. Note that you can always end the experience when you have had enough.

Day 5 – travel back to Kampala

After breakfast you shall check out and head back to Kampala.
