5 days wildlife safari and gorilla trekking in Uganda

This 5 days trip takes to you Queen Elizabeth national park one of the main safari destinations in Uganda that is popular for the tree climbing lions, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park the main location for the gorilla trekking in Uganda. Both parks are situated in the highly scenic south western Uganda region along the Albertine rift Valley.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 – travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

The tour driver shall pick you up from Kampala and travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive time from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park is about 7 hours long.

You will stop over in Mbarara town for lunch.

You will spend the rest of the evening at the lodge enjoying wonderful views across the park.

Optional: night safari

At dusk you can set out for a night game drive in the park to see the nocturnal animals. Elusive animals such as leopards, hyenas and other cats are active at this time.

Day 2 – game drive and boat ride

You will rise up early for breakfast before going out into the savanna to watch animals. You will do the game drive in the Kasenyi plains which are the main animal watching part of the park and some of the animals you shall include elephants, buffaloes, lots antelopes, lions, etc… This will be a 3 – 4 hour safari after which you shall return to the lodge for lunch.

After the lunch you shall go for the boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which offers another opportunity to see more animals. The Kazinga Channel is a stream of water that joins two lakes, Edward and George. The channel is home to crocodile and hippos and also attracts several animals such as elephants, antelopes, buffaloes that come to drink and cool off during the hot days.

Day 3 – travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha to see tree climbing lions

Today you shall check out of the lodge at about 8am and leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You shall go through the Ishasha region which is a remote part of Queen Elizabeth National Park that is popular for the tree climbing lions and if lucky could see them. Several animals such as Topi, Elephants, and Buffaloes can be spotted in this area as well.

Day 4 – Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today you shall go for the popular gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi forest which is arguably the biggest highlight of this trip. You shall rise up from bed by 6am for breakfast. You shall picked a lunch box and transfer to the park office where you meet the park guides for briefing and allocation of the gorilla families. Bwindi National Park has up to 19 habituated gorilla group available for tracking. You will then set into Bwindi forest to track your assigned family that you shall find after an hour or so of trekking, and you spend one with the gorillas.

Day 5 – travel back to Kampala

After breakfast you shall check out and travel back to Kampala
