Trip overview

This trip takes you to experience the less visited region of Uganda, that is, Eastern Uganda. This region is situated off the popular tourist circuit that has gorillas, chimps and Murchison Falls National Park for safari. So, not many people go to experience this remote and unique region, endowed with landscapes, wildlife, people and cultures and weather different from the rest of the country. If you want to have a raw African experience, a true road-less-traveled, then take on this for a trip of a lifetime experience.

Tour itinerary

The trip starts with pick up from your hotel at 6.30am to beat the traffic jam through Kampala. Drive on the Kampala Jinja highway going to Jinja, and along the way you shall visit two nice nature hotspots. You will visit first Sezibwa Falls to see these lovely falls that are also a cultural site. Thereafter continue to Mabira forest for a 2 – 3 hour nature walk to immerse in nature, watching monkeys, birds, reptiles, trees etc…

From there continue to Jinja city where you shall take a boat trip to the source of the Nile and if time allows experience the city more including visiting the Railway museum.

Today you will wake up to experience the might River Nile by selecting from one of the many thrilling adventures, including;

  • horseback riding along the Nile into the countryside
  • quad biking along the Nile into the villages
  • white water rafting
  • kayaking
  • bungee jumping

Later, after lunch, you shall check out and travel farther east to Sipi falls. Have dinner and overnight

Today you will take on the Sipi Falls hike, visiting all the three waterfalls in the foothills of the Elgon Mountain. The biggest of the falls that is 100 meters high, has the thrilling abseiling adventure that you can add to the hike.

Today you will get up early by 6am and travel to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. It is only one hour’s drive from Sipi Falls to Pian Upe. On arrival you will get briefing from the ranger guide and thereafter go out to experience this beautiful wilderness. You will most likely be the only person(s) out there in this serene wilderness. Look out for a number of game, especially the Cheetahs! Others sightings will include the Roan antelope, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, Ostriches, etc…

You will also visit the Napedet cave which holds important cultural values and history for the Karimojongs.

After sunset you may also do a night drive to look for nocturnal wildlife.

Today you will do a morning walk in Pian Upe to get up close to nature and possible see more wildlife. Thereafter check out and travel to Moroto town, the regional capital of Karamoja land located at the base of Mount Moroto.

Today you will have early breakfast and check out by 7.30am and leave for Nakapelimoru village which is about 2 hours away. Nakapelimoru is the biggest cultural village in East Africa where Karimojongs live a raw traditional lifestyle. This is the best place for a full Karimojong cultural experience. You will spend up to 2 – 3 hours here, interacting with the Karimojongs, learning about their traditions, watching their traditional homesteads and learning their unique way of life.

Later, continue to Kotido town for late lunch, before driving to Kidepo Valley National Park (approximately 3 hours)

Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the recognized game parks in Africa, ranked by many international publications for the amazing landscape and huge buffalo herds. Today you will start your incredible experience of this gem that receives very few visitors because it is located very far from Kampala and Entebbe.

You will spend today exploring the Narus Valley which is the greener area of the park having the park’s only permanent water sources. So, most animals will be found here during the dry season. Animals to see include Buffaloes, zebras, topi, giraffes, antelopes including the White-eared Kob that is found only in this place in Uganda. Lions, Hyenas, and Leopards are the big cats to look for here. Cheetahs are also a prized sighting of the park.

Today you will go deeper into the Kidepo wilderness and visit the dry Kidepo valley. Fewer animals will be found here during the dry season, but it is a beautiful serene wilderness to experience, especially the dry sand river beds lined with borasus trees.

Today you will check out and drive to Gulu city for the night purposely break down the long drive back to Kampala.

Alternatively you can take a charter flight back (if you can afford).

Check out and drive back to Kampala with an optional stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you can do a guided walk to see the rhinos along with few other animals on the sanctuary.

Trips includes/excludes
