Uganda Wild Life Authority has announced this year’s Open Parks Days which is to take place from September 25 – 27, 2026.

Here is what you need to need to know about this special offer by the Uganda Wildlife Authority:

What is the Open Parks Days?

Open Parks Days is an initiative by Uganda Wildlife Authority where select parks and wildlife reserves are opened up for entry without charging any entry fees. This is the second time that Uganda Wildlife Authority has availed this opportunity since the first one in 2024

Who can enter for free?

This is very important!

The open parks days is only available to Ugandan Citizens, and foreigners who are resident in Uganda.

All other visitors will need to pay the standard park fees.

Which parks are included in the Open Parks Days program?

Not all parks are included in this program. It is SELECT parks and wildlife reserves. However, those selected are the most popular and interesting parks for big game watching.

Tips to make your trip cheaper to properly take advantage of the Open Parks Days

While free entry is a big saving, transport and accommodation are the main costs. Here are ways to cut expenses:

  • Visit nearby parks: Fuel prices are high, so choose destinations closer to you. For example, from Kampala or Entebbe, Lake Mburo (3.5 hours away) is cheaper to reach than Murchison Falls (6 hours away).
  • Travel in groups: Sharing transport costs with family, friends, or colleagues makes trips more affordable.
  • Negotiate accommodation: Popular lodges like Paraa Safari Lodge (Murchison Falls) and Mweya Safari Lodge (Queen Elizabeth) often offer discounts during special seasons, especially for groups. Alternatively, camping with a tent and sleeping bag is adventurous and budget-friendly.

September is an ideal time for Open Parks Days because

  • It’s just after peak season (July–August), so parks are less crowded.
  • The weather is transitioning from the dry season to the wet season, bringing cooler temperatures and lush scenery.
  • Light rains may occur, so pack rain gear to stay comfortable.
